The Zambian government has praised the people of Mozambique for ensuring that principles of democracy were upheld in the recent general elections in their country.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said the people of Mozambique should be congratulated for sticking to democratic principles which he said were a sure demonstration that democracy will always prevail in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states.

ZANIS Staffer, Ethel Chanda reports from Maputo that Mr. Kalaba said this when he arrived in Maputo in Mozambique yesterday for the inauguration of that country’s new President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi today.

And Zambia’s first President Kenneth Kaunda observed that Mozambique has always provided good governance to its people.

Dr. Kaunda has since advised the new leadership in Mozambique should develop the country further.

General elections were held in Mozambique on October 15, 2014 and Filipe Nyusi of the Frelimo party was elected as president, taking over from Armando Guebuza who was barred by the country’s constitution from seeking a third term of office.
