The printing of ballot papers for the January 20, 2015 presidential election has started in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The printing commenced at 19:00 hours yesterday after representatives from all political parties participating in the presidential election verified details of their respective candidates.
Ren-Form Printing Solutions, the company that has been contracted by the Electoral Commission of Zambia to print the ballot papers, is expected to complete the process on 9th January 2015.
Ren-Form Chief Operations Officer Albe Naude has since assured the delegation of political party representatives, church and civil society representatives and journalists who witnessed the beginning of the printing of ballot papers, that his company will complete the work within schedule.
"We have already received the art works from the Electoral Commission of Zambia and with the approval of political parties, printing should sign off. It is important that we start printing the ballot papers today (yesterday) for us to meet the deadline," he said.
Ren-Form Printing Solutions will print 5, 390, 050 ballot papers for all the 150 constituencies.
The company has already completed printing ballot covers and is set to finish the presidential ballot posters tomorrow, Tuesday 30 December 2014.
The Heritage Party, United National Independence Party (UNIP), Christian Democratic Party, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), Patriotic Front (PF) and the Green Party have all sent representatives to monitor the printing of ballot papers.
Other parties that are represented at the monitoring of printing of ballot papers are the United Party for National Development (UPND), the Forum for Democratic Alternatives, the National Restoration Party (NAREP) and the Fourth Revolution party.
The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), Islamic Supreme Council and the Zambia National Women’s Lobby and journalists are also part of the delegation.
Ren-Form Printing Solutions has been in the printing business for ten years and has printed ballot papers for Madagascar, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Burundi.
