Three candidates vying for the Lukulu West seat successfully filed in their nomination papers yesterday ahead of by elections slated for April 23, 2013.
ZANIS reports that opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Misheck Mutelo was the first one to file in his nomination at 10:00 hours.
Mr. Mutelo previously held the seat under the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) but he defected to the UPND shortly after the High Court declared his election as null and void following an election petition by the ruling PF.
United Liberal Party (ULP) candidate Mubita Nawa was the second to file in his nomination papers at exactly 11:00 hours.
The ruling Patriotic Front candidate Eillen Imbae filed in her nomination at about 12:30 hours.
Returning officer Crispin Kasemuka declared all the three duly qualified to contest the Lukulu West by elections.
Vice President Guy Scott, Gender Minister Inonge Wina, Community Development Deputy Minister Jean Kapata, PF and Campaign Manager for the Lukulu West parliamentary by elections Nathaniel Mubukwanu, PF Deputy Secretary General Bridget Atanga and other PF officials witnessed Ms Imbae’s filing in of nominations.
