Four die of food poisoning in Mpika
Mica, March 29, 2013, ZANIS — Police Mica have arrested a man of Neodesha Village for allegedly causing the death of four people from one family in Chief Chikwanda’s area through food poisoning.
ZANIS reports that Muchinga Province police commissioner Remmy Kajoba has confirmed the arrest of the man in an interview in Chinsali today.
Mr. Kajoba said 25 year old Bernard Siame has been arrested allegedly poisoning four members of his family who died on Tuesday evening this week.
He said Siame bought insecticide chemicals in powder form to spray in his tomato field adding that he kept the same in the house without securing it properly.
The police chief added that later, his aunt mistakenly used the same powder to cook nshima thinking it was cassava meal and mixed it with maize meal.
Mr. Kajoba said the poisonous nshima was later eaten by family of four who later died.
He identified the deceased as Theresa Siame, 65, who is aunt to the murder suspect, Memory Kampamba 11, Tasha Chileshe, 10, and Lukas Kampamba, 8, who are also nieces and a nephew to the suspect respectively.
Mr. Kajoba said the four have since been buried and investigations in the matter have been intensified.
