Scores of Kalabo residents who were monitoring the funeral procession of late President Michael Sata through television yesterday uncontrollably wailed as Patriotic Front Secretary General Edgar Lungu gave his speech while weeping.
And business came to a standstill because shop owners closed their premises as they gathered at some designated places to closely monitor the proceedings broadcast by the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation on big screens.
The residents gathered as early as 06:00 hours because some of them were coming from the outskirts of town and had to spend the whole night travelling on foot for more than 60 kilometres to get to the Boma area to mourn with the rest of the country.
Before the requiem mass at the Heroes stadium, residents opened with a word of prayer which was followed by singing of solemn songs.
It was after Justice Minister Edgar Lungu’s weeping during his speech that mourners burst into uncontrollable wailing with some of them leaving the premises as they could not control their emotions.
However, everything was conducted in a united and peaceful manner, a development that cheered many.
And after the burial, Mundia Mundia 67, of Kashitu Township called on fellow electorates to choose a leader who would portray the late President Sata’s character.
Mr. Mundia said Zambia needed another action oriented person to complete developmental projects that were initiated by the late President.
He cited the pave-Zambia 2,000, link-Zambia 8,000 and the construction of health posts and schools as being among the important projects that must be given special attention by late President Sata’s successor.
Mr. Mundia further noted that the best way to honour the late president was by carrying on with his developmental vision for the country,
let’s 4get him$let the dead burry the dead1,jst think abt your life.
Let’s mourn for ourselves koz wil never a president like him inthe near future…
