A Catholic Priest in Kaputa district has commended acting President Guy Scott for reinstating Edgar Lungu as the party Secretary General.
Father Leonard Kalyoti of St. Annie’s Catholic Church in Kaputa said the sucking of Mr. Lungu would have caused serious divisions within the ruling party.
He said there was too much talk within and outside the PF after the news of Mr. Lungu’s sucking adding that his comeback has brought relief to the party.
The clergyman who commended the decision taken by Dr. Scott and PF officials to iron out the issue said it has been done in the interest of everyone.
He has however urged the PF to handle the succession of President Sata with civility adding that the power struggle has the potential to weaken the party and affect their campaigns for the coming by-elections.
Fr. Kalyoti who was speaking to ZANIS in Kaputa today advised PF members to embrace each other and ensure that the right procedure is followed when choosing a successor to President Sata.
He said PF should ask for discernment from God and go above their differences when choosing a leader to replace Mr. Sata.
He also appealed to all political parties in the country to remain united and mourn the President in peace.
Fr. Kalyoti said political party leaders should also ensure that they promote peace when the campaigns for the by-elections will start.
He said every Zambian has a duty to sustain the peace the country has enjoyed in the last 50 years and should not allow politics to divide them.
And a PF member in Kaputa has also called for unity in the party during this period and the run up to the presidential by-elections.
Webby Kawelwa who is also PF Kaleulu Ward Councillor said unity is cardinal especially the late President promoted unity in the party.
Mr. Kawelwa also called on the party to handle the succession of President in a transparent manner to avoid divisions in the party.
Dr. Guy Scott had on Monday fired Mr. Lungu as PF Secretary General but the decision was later rescinded.
