Chinsali council called to cooperate with market committee

—Chinsali Market Chairperson, Brian Bwalya, has appealed to the local authority in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province to work hand in hand with the market committee in order to root out problems faced by marketeers.

Mr Bwalya told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today that there is need for the local authority in the district to direct people selling food staffs such as vegetables and tomatoes in undesignated places to start selling from the market.

He observed that if the Council is able to respond to matters affecting the businesses at Chinsali main market, it will help to bring sanity in the area.

The market Chairperson has since urged traders to follow the laid down rules at the market.

Mr Bwalya said selling in wrong places, insulting and beer drinking at the market is not allowed, adding that even those with dogs should ensure that they do not bring them in the market because it is against the market Act.

And speaking on behave of other marketers, Bwalya Mbulo, said business is moving at a slow pace in the market due to other marketees selling outside the market.

Ms Mbulo said people who are selling tomatoes and other vegetables in places such as the bus station, the bank and other open areas have greatly affected the business of those selling in the market because it is an enclosed place.

Meanwhile, Ms Mbulo said that even if those people selling outside the market were to be ordered to get back in the market, the market shelter is too small to accommodate all the marketers, hence the need for the council to extend the shelter or construct a new trading place.

Efforts to get a comment from Chinsali Town Clerk, Patrick Kambita, failed as he was reported to be in a meeting.
