Luangwa District receives farming inputs

Luangwa District has received farming inputs for the 2014/2015 farming season under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

Luangwa District Agricultural Coordinator, Ernest Munthali, confirmed that the district has received 380 X 10Kg pockets of early maturing maize seed, 50 X 5 Kg pockets of sorghum seed and 210 X 10K pockets groundnuts seed which will be distributed to small scale farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme.

Mr Munthali added that apart from the seed, the district has also been allocated with 1, 115 X 50Kg bags of D-compound fertilizer under the same programme.

He said more than 380 small scale farmers will benefit from the consignment, adding that his office was expecting to receive urea fertilizer very soon.

Mr Munthali thanked government for the timely delivery of the farming inputs which he said will be distributed to the beneficiaries within the shortest period of time.

And Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba, thanked government for the timely gesture as this will enable the farmers to plant on time.

Mr Mumba said the farming inputs have come at a right time when farmers have already finished preparing their fields.

He urged the beneficiaries to fully utilise the Farmer Input Support Programme to increase food security in their households and the district at large.

The District Commissioner also called on the people in the district to take advantage of the infrastructural development in the district by improving their production.

Mr Mumba said the tarring of the Luangwa D145 main road will bring a lot of development to the district hence the need for them to be creative and increase productivity.
