Family members of deceased freedom fighters in Shiwang’andu request for infrastructure in their honour

–Family members of three late freedom fighters, who died at the battle field during the independence struggle in Shiwang`andu district, have called on government to construct health posts or markets in their respective areas and name the structures after the departed freedom fighters.

Speaking on behalf of other relatives, Japhet Chileshe Chepela, who is also Mushishi village headman, said of the three gallant freedom fighters that were shot dead by the colonialists in 1961, Chabe Mushishi, White Chipila and A Mr Mattel no structure has been named after them.

Mr Chepela said naming of important structures after the freedom fighters in Shiwang`andu will play a noble cause of appreciating the departed freedom fighters and it will be a mark of remembrance in the district.

Mr Chepela said this at Kabangama Grave site in Shiwang`andu district, where maintenance works of Chabe`s grave site was being conducted.

Meanwhile, Maintenance works at Chabe`s grave site were successful while works at other   grave sites for  Mattel and White could not take off due to no access roads to ferry materials to the grave sites.

The maintenance works were coordinated by Shiwang`andu District Commissioner (DC) Moses Katebe and Golden Jubilee Organising Committee Chairperson, Edwin Kikamba.

Mr Katebe said it is unfortunate that there are no access roads to the grave sites from the main road, adding that maintenance works would have been done at all the three sites.

Mr Katebe said despite this challenge, he will ensure that the maintenance works are done as planned because all building materials to facilitate the works are available.
