United Kingdom (UK) Minister of State for
the Commonwealth Hugo Swire has described Zambia’s golden jubilee as
an important milestone for the country and UK partnership.
According to a statement released to ZANIS by the Political and
Communications Manager at the British High Commission Alfred Kapalayi
in Lusaka today, Mr. Swire said the ties between Zambia and the United
Kingdom are strong.
He further stated that the Zambian civil service, parliament and
judiciary are largely founded along the British model.
He observed that Zambia and the UK share the Commonwealth which unites
53 members by language, history, culture and the shared values of
democracy.
Mr. Swire also said the UK’s support has since independence become constant.
He further stated that at one point, the UK’s co-operation with Zambia
was the biggest in the world.
He said the 50 years independence anniversary will not only offer the
opportunity to view the relationship through the lens of history but
most importantly to look to the future.
