Information and Broadcasting Services deputy minister Poniso Njeulu has commended the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for funding the construction of a classroom block at Naliyo Community School in Shang’ombo district.
Mr. Njeulu who is also United Party for National Development (UPND) Sinjembele area Member of Parliament said it is imperative that stakeholders in the education sector partner with government in uplifting education standards in the country especially in rural areas.
UNICEF has funded the construction of a one by three classroom block at the community school.
Mr Njelu also disclosed that government through the Ministry of Education programme to upgrade community schools has released K340 million (KR340,000) for the construction of an additional one by two classroom block and a staff house at the school.
And Namatama Sitali, a teacher at Naliyo community school explained that there are only two makeshift classrooms housing about 170 pupils.
Ms Sitali thanked UNICEF and government for the construction of new classroom blocks at the school saying the move will go a long way in enhancing the standards of education at the institution.
She however appealed for deployment of additional staff saying only one trained teacher and two community helpers are employed at the school against the 170 pupils.
Meanwhile, a local contractor working on the project Bengege construction said the new building will be completed by April, next month.
This came to light when the Information Deputy Minister visited the school during his tour of developmental projects in Shang’ombo district.
