THE National Association for Media Arts (NAMA) has named one award at its first-ever Zambia Film, Television and Radio Awards (ZAFTA) set for November after celebrated artiste Augustine Lungu.

Other prominent artistes to have awards named after them include Dan “Sauzande” Kanengoki, Manda Mwila, Chanda “Maximo” Mwale, Patrick Magoro, Graig Lungu, Joemwa Mtsinje Mwale and Godfrey “Kapotwe” Mwape – all of them deceased.
A statement by NAMA publicity secretary Memory Mulewa indicates that at the 2014 ZAFTAR awards to be held at the Government Complex in Lusaka, there is the Augustine Lungu Award for the Media Artiste of the Year 2013/2014, the Danny “Sauzande” Kanengoki Award for the Best Screen Actor, the Agness Mulimbika Award for the Best Screen Actress, the Joseph “Bokseni” Mwale Award for the Best Radio Actor and the Nelly “Bana Chidongo” Award for the Best Radio Actress.
Others are the Patrick Magoro Award for the Best Radio Drama Producer, the Manda Mwila Award for the Best Screen Director, the Graig Lungu Award for the Best Screen Script, the Joemwa Mtsinje Mwale Award for the Best Radio Script, the Chanda “Maximo” Mwale Award for the Best Screen Soap, the Victor Mweetwa Award for the Best Feature Film, the Godfrey “Kapotwe” Mwape Award for the Best Short Film and the Joseph Kabwe Award for the Best Radio Play.
There is also the Isaac Mulinda Award for the Best Music Video (not for the musician but for the producer of the music video), the Chali Chilengwe Award for the Best Cinematographer, the Mofya Chisenga Award for the Best Screen Documentary, the Malama “Emergency Kanyakula” Nsunge Award for the Best Radio Documentary, the Chris “Mungri” Zulu Award for the Best Sound Technician, the Abraham Sandamu Award for the Best Editor and the Father Miha Award as the chairman’s award.
“This year’s ceremony will see 20 awards being presented, while next year we expect to have 30 awards, and in 2016 the association expects 40 awards as our aim is to walk slowly but not backwards. The first 20 awards will be dedicated to the late Zambian artistes and professionals who contributed greatly to the development of audio visual productions in the country,” Memory says.
“Entry and adjudication details will be made public soon but the association is quick to mention that all Zambian broadcasting houses, production companies, theatre clubs and individual artistes are free to participate.”
