COINERS and fans of the famous Kopala Swag catch-phrase in the Zambian musical circles were last Friday on cloud nine after their well-loved top-rep Macky 2 swept the board of the Born and Bred Music Video Awards.
Reduced to a mere spectator in the last Zambian Music Awards, held from the same venue, was rather surprising to see Macky 2 triumph over the likes of soaring R&B star Slap Dee who in the other Awards emerged tops.
The Kopala Swag coiner was swarmed by his music compatriots from the Copperbelt who took the stage under siege the moment his name was called upon to receive his first Award of the night; raising security concerns.
Macky 2 could walk with his head high after amassing four awards in the categories of Best Conscious Music Video, Best Collaboration Music Video that featured K’Million, Best Zed Video and the overall accolade of the Best Video of the year.
His younger brother Chef was not left out as he equally got a fair share from the awards by scooping two awards in the categories of Best Hip Hop Video and Best Radio four Song of the year; much to the bliss of the fan base in the audience.
For sure, it was an enthralling moment for the Kopala Swag crew who would not hide their joy and loyalty to the Kopala family as they went up together to collect the Awards.
It was as though the Born and Bred Awards countered the votes of the Zambia Music Awards (ZMA) as those who emerged victorious in the ZMA like Slap Dee were humbled without a single accolade.
It was Kopala Night! Dandy Krazzy who never got an accolade was in the front leading the Kopala family to the stage accompanying Macky 2 and his brother when their names were called to receive awards After being announced winner of the Best Video of the Year Award, the stage was once again swarmed by the uncontrollable Kopala fans and the Jerabo unit; filling up the stage-front with cheers.
Their night had finally come! Thanks to Born and Bred Awards. Others who walked away with single accolades included Gospel music genius, Pompi who scooped Best Gospel Video Award.
Maureen Lilanda got the life achievement Award, while Luciano walked away with the traditional Vidio Award. Best Tourism Video Award went to Mukuka, while the best Female upcoming Video went to Chama.
Best Upcoming Male Music Video Award went to Stevo, while the best Foreign Video went to award winning Zone Fam. Yellow man walked away with the Best Dancehall Video of Award.
Katisha was the winner of the Best Female Video Award while the much Mannas featuring Roberto walked away with Best RnB Music Video Award.
Meanwhile, B- Flo was awarded for his special efforts in fighting for women’s rights. It was a special recognition award.
Now talking of the show generally and gauged by the Zambian production standards, this year’s show was far mach better than the previous apologies of Awards though a lot of lapses were recorded.
