Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has commended Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda for formally reporting to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) the alleged bribe offer by a Dangote Industries Zambia Limited official.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says his organization has also taken note of the explanation Mr. Shamenda has made for not reporting the matter within the required twenty four hours.

Mr. Lungu has told Qfm news that the fact that Mr. Shamenda has reported to the matter to the ACC is the right way to go.

He says TIZ hopes that the ACC will now expedite the investigations so that the truth can come and possibly pave way for the arrest of the perpetrators of the alleged crime.

Mr. Lungu says his organization is also calling upon and challenging other government officials in the habit of making corruption allegations without necessary reporting such matters to the ACC, to take note that it is an offence to ignore section 39 sub-section 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act.

He says TIZ is of the view that public officers are not being helpful in the fight against corruption if they continue making allegations of corruption without necessarily bringing such matters to the attention of the ACC.
