MultiChoice urged to cut DStv prices in Zambia

illegal South African DStv package

Reduce DStv subscription prices or risk facing the continued illegal access of the service’s satellite channels.

This is the message that Zambia’s minister of information and broadcasting services, Dr. Joseph Katema, has given to MultiChoice.

Zambian police are on high alert amid allegations that free-to-air decoders packaged with manipulated software are illegally accessing DStv signals in the country.

Last week, ITWeb Africa reported that MultiChoice complained that it is losing thousands of Kwacha over the illegal connections.

But Katema has since said that MultiChoice should find ways to cut costs of DStv in a bid to curb this problem.

“I would like to mention here that it important that we need to find ways and means of reducing the cost of DStv in order to enable more customers to access facilities and services provided by MultiChoice,” Katema said.

Full bouquet subscribers in Zambia pay close to $100 per month.

ITWeb Africa has previously reported how MultiChoice has experienced illegal viewing problems in neighbouring Zimbabwe.

In March this year, MultiChoice had issued “warnings” to Zimbabweans who illegally buy South African DStv packages to watch channels not available in Zimbabwe.
