Porous border worries Kalabo DC

Kalabo, Sept 5/14, ZANI ——Acting Kalabo District Commissioner, Inambao Mwiya, says the district faces security challenges because of the porous Zambia/Angola boundaries.

Mr Mwiya observed that travellers were coming in and going out of the country freely without any screening which he said was of great concern to the district.

The acting District Commissioner was speaking yesterday when Western Province Minister, Ridgewell Siamunene, paid a courtesy call on him.

Mr Mwiya also told the minister that the cost of doing business in the district was high due to poor road network.

And in response, Mr Siamunene reaffirmed government’s commitment to provide what was required to ensure the completion of the Mongu/Kalabo road was done within schedule.

The minister said he was aware that constructing a road in Western Province was an expensive undertaking due to the terrain, adding that this would not discourage government to go on with the project because it was not concerned about the cost but the wellbeing of the people.

Mr Siamunene added that apart from the Mongu/Kalabo road, government would also construct feeder roads within the district.

The minister toured the construction site of the Youth Resource Centre, New State Prisons, modern Urban Local Court, Kalabo Trades and the new sewer ponds.
