The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has rejected 72 liquor license applications citing poor sanitation.
Town Clerk, Alex Mwansa says the Lusaka City Council will continue with the inspections of bars, restaurants and night clubs to check on the sanitation facilities before issuing or renewing licenses.
Mr Mwansa says the City Council has embarked on an exercise of closing down bars, restaurants and night clubs that do not meet the required health and sanitation standards.
He has also cautioned bar and night club owners to guard against under age patrons and warned that those found abrogating the regulations will or face the wrath of the law.
Mr Mwansa has further warned commercial and residential property owners owing the Council in rental and ground rate arrears to pay up or face legal action.
The Town Clerk states that the Council has also issued a stern warning that it is starting to cut down illegal billboards for those non- compliant with the standards.
He says the Council is losing a lot of revenue through such illegalities and requested billboard owners and agents to upgrade their data with the Lusaka City Council Revenue office.
Mr. Mwansa says at the moment the Council is only collecting about 50 per cent of the total revenue required.
