Livingstone Council warns vendors

—- The Livingstone City Council has warned street vendors in the tourist capital to move away or face the full wrath of the law.

In an interview with ZANIS in Livingstone today, Public Relations Manager Emmanuel Sikanyika said the local authority was not going to tolerate any street vending in the tourist capital.

Mr. Sikanyika noted that despite delays in the completion of the modern town centre market traders had no right to go back on the streets as there was still some trading space in other markets such as Maramba and Dambwa.

He explained that the council was doing everything possible to ensure that the new market was completed to pave way for relocation of traders to enable them continue with their usual business.

Mr. Sikanyika said the council had a register of all genuine traders and would not accommodate those with intentions of giving the local authority a hard time.

He commended traders for complying with the directive to move from the town centre market to pave way for construction of a modern market adding that they would be given priority when allocating stalls once the new market was completed.

Mr. Skanyika appealed to the traders to bear with the council for delaying to complete the market within the stipulated period due to challenges in accessing funds, materials and appointing contractors.
