OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says regardless of the motive of Mr. Mufalali’s close following of the Inspector General of Police’s motorcade, there is no justification to have him assaulted by the Police officer because that is as bad as promoting the breakdown of the rule of law by the Zambia Police itself.
Mr Nyirenda says his organization holds the position that Mr. Mufalali is a known lawmaker in the country and therefore it is unacceptable that his position and human rights could have disrespected in the way the unnamed Police officer did.
Mr. Nyirenda has told Qfm news that his organization is particularly disappointed that Police further justified the actions of the Police officer against the MP through the Spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda.
He says his organization is also left to wonder what would have happened if the person who was following the Police Chief’s motorcade was a mere ordinary member of the public.
Mr Nyirenda states that by such action, the Police are implying that anyone found committing a crime should be beaten contrary to the law which considers an accused person innocent until proven guilty.
