Chavuma secondary gets transformer
Chavuma, July 28, 2014, ZANIS– Government has given Chavuma Secondary School in the North Western Province K84, 000 for the procurement of a transformer that will supply power to the institution.
District Commissioner Lawrence Kayumba confirmed to ZANIS in Solwezi today that ZESCO technicians were on the ground erecting the power equipment.
Mr Kayumba said supply of power to the school will enable the institution start operating as a boarding school.
Government also hopes that the development will help keep girls indoors and reduce the rate of pregnancies as they were currently renting accommodation in nearby villages.
Chavuma secondary school has been offering day schooling since it opened this year following the completion of construction works at the cost K27 million.
The school which is the first ever secondary school to open in the district since independence has enrolled 675 pupils.
