Solwezi residents concerned about careless parking
Solwezi, June 19, 2014, ZANIS…….Solwezi residents have expressed
serious concerns about heavy duty trucks which park at un-designated
places along the high way in the central business centre, thereby
obstructing other road users .
A check by Zambia News and Information Services found heavy duty
trucks and cars parked along Independence Avenue and people complained
that their lives are in exposed to danger each time they try to cross
the road.
And North Western Province Council of Elders has expressed similar
concerns on the careless packing of heavy duty trucks and cars at
undesignated places.
Provincial council of elders, chairperson, Lucas Chikoti has called on
the Solwezi Municipal Council to step in and come up with measures to
address the situation before people’s lives are lost.
He urged the council to take a leaf from towns like Kitwe and Ndola as
Independence avenue is in the town centre for Solwezi posing risk of
the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
Mr. Chikoti has since appealed to the council to come up with packing
places and start levying motorists who pack in undesignated places.
He said such a measure could not only ensure the safety of the people
but also serve as a source of revenue collection for the council.
Recently, the local authority said they would start clumping wheels of
vehicles packed in undesignated places, but were still arranging for
the gadgets to use on clumping the wheels of vehicles.
