——The government says it cannot manage to meet all the needs of the prisoners due to limited resources.
Home affairs deputy minister, Nickson Chilangwa says while government is aware of the many challenges facing the Zambia prison service, it cannot address these challenges alone.
Mr. Chilangwa said concerned citizens, the church and other stakeholders should come on board to assist government in addressing the several challenges inmates are facing in prisons.
The minister said this said this when he received 200 meters of orange material that has been sewn into 90 pairs of prisoners’ uniforms at Kawambwa state prison in Kawambwa District on Monday.
The 200 meters of orange material has been donated by a local businessman of Wiza enterprises, Andrew Sindazi.
Mr Chilangwa who is also Kawambwa Central MP said that the donation to the prison service will go a long way in mitigating the shortage of prisoners’ uniform that is being experienced in most prisons throughout the country.
And officer in charge Luke Mulenga has thanked Mr Sindazi for the gesture says the donation of material has eased the inmates’ uniform
problems.
