Nakonde constitutes child labour committee
Nakonde, March 7, 2013, ZANIS…Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion and protection of children rights in the country.
Nakonde district commissioner James Singoyi made the assurance in Nakonde yesterday shortly after new members of the district child labour committee was ushered into office.
The child labour committee was formed after a one-day training workshop on the protection and promotion of children rights held at Mwetwa guest house in Nakonde.
The one -day training workshop was facilitated by officers from the ministry of Labour in Lusaka .
Mr. Singoyi said that the government is working hard to promote and protect the rights of children in the area.
He said it is for this reason that government has finally constituted a committee that will specifically be dealing with child labour issues in the district.
The district commissioner further observed that child labour is a scourge that must be fought with concerted efforts in order to protect the rights of every Zambian child.
Mr. Singoyi also revealed that Nakonde is the first district to have such a structure in the entire Muchinga Province.
He added that government has constituted child labour Committees in more than 22 districts in the country.
Mr. Singoyi has since urged the members of the newly constituted child labour committee to work tirelessly and ensure that no child is engaged in any form of child labour activities in the area.
The committee will be operating under the chairmanship of the Catholic Church and will be deputized by the United Church of Zambia (UCZ).
The secretariat is the department of Social welfare with all Government institutions in the district as committee members.
