AVAP calls for regulation of political parties
Kasama, March 6, 2013. ZANIS—-Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Coordinator for Northern and Muchinga Provinces Kelly Kashiwa has called for the regulation of political parties by way of reviewing the law to promote peace in the country.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today Mr. Kashiwa said once political parties are regulated, they will desist from involving themselves in political upheavals.
He noted that political parties should be regulated in a manner that once any party has gone against rules and regulations it should be made accountable with punitive measures.
Mr. Kashiwa also noted that when political parties are made to abide by rules and regulations it will ease the work of the electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the police service.
He expressed concern at the hatred that exists among political parties and called on political party secretary generals to sensitise their cadres on maintaining discipline and law.
Mr. Kashiwa said all political parties should take keen interest in peace building and sell their manifestoes than being involved in violence.
He added that women will in future not participate in politics as a result of political violence which has rocked the country.
The AVAP Coordinator described the killing of a PF official in Livingstone as unfortunate and that the people behind the killing should face the law.
