Govt. reiterates commitment to curbing GBV

Ndola, March 3, 2013, ZANIS – GOVERNMENT has retaliated its commitment towards the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) through various initiatives that included women empowerment.

Copperbelt province permanent secretary Stanford Msichili  says despite some notable achievements done in the fight against GBV,  government was committed to fight against the vice by empowering women to become self reliant.

Mr. Msichili called on the general public to be vigilant by capturing and reporting any violence happening in society.

ZANIS reports that the permanent secretary said this in a speech read on his behalf by Ndola District Commissioner Rabson Chanda on Friday.

This was  during the prayers and International Women’s day commemoration candlelight service held at the Anglican Cathedral of Holy Nativity in Ndola.

He said there was need to fight violence and to speak out on issues of ill-treatment around the communities as opposed to keeping quiet for fear of being seen unchristian and disrespectful.

He said abusers should be made accountable of the abuses they committed in order to rebuild the country.

He said there was global momentum for championing women’s equality and equity as the achievements of women remained vigilant for further sustainable change.

The prayers marked the beginning of International women’s day activities whose theme for the year is, “The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum.”
