Two die in road traffic accident in Kabompo
Two people have died on the spot when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control following a tyre burst along the Mutanda Chavuma Road in Kabompo district.
Both North-western Province Police Commissioner Eugene Sibote and Kabompo District Hospital Nurse-in-charge Getrude Mukosa confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Kabompo yesterday.
Mr. Sibote said the accident happened yesterday evening around 19:30 hours at a place commonly known as The M8 Road near Samununga area.
He said the driver of the vehicle a Mitsubishi Futso Light Truck registration number ABZ 3334 was carrying 16 people is believed to have been over speeding.
The police commissioner identified the deceased as Sitali Sitali 30 and Ndonji Sangondola 39 all of Nkweshi Village, Lukulu District in Western Province.
Mr. Sibote also identified the driver of the truck as Oliver Nkomesha 27 of Lukulu Old Market area.
And some of the passengers on the truck who include 10 males and four females sustained injuries and are currently admitted to Kabompo District Hospital.
Mr Sibote attributed the accident to over speeding hence the driver lost control after a tyre burst which forced the vehicle to hit into the Culverts.
He said the vehicle overturned with Its wind screen shattered and its cabin deformed.
And Ms Mukosa acknowledged having received 14 accident victims whose condition she described as stable.
The truck was enroute to Solwezi from Lukulu Western Province and was also loaded with Fish.
