PF leads in Mpongwe by elections

 

Ndola, March 1, ZANIS ——- Patriotic Front Parliamentary Candidate Gabriel Namulambe is leading in the Mpongwe by election from the ballot boxes so far counted.

 

By 07.00 hours this morning Namulambe was leading by 4315 votes whilst UPND’s Rapson Chilufya was trailing behind with 2745.

 

A total of 40 polling stations had their results brought in out of the 48 centers to the totaling centre at the civic centre in the early hours of this morning.

 

Other results that had been recorded by this morning from other candidates are MMD’s Minniver Mutesa who had 844, NAREP’s Reagan Ndhlovu 577, UNIP’s Ken Kuveya had polled 97 out of a total of 8733 ballot papers cast.

 

Only six polling stations had not yet brought in their results as these were still being awaited for owing to their remoteness.

 

According to Returning officer Joackim Mangwale, a ZAF helicopter had since been sent to carry the remaining boxes so that the totalling is finalized once they were in.

 

Meanwhile the Patriotic Front has scooped all the three local government elections namely Luswishi, Kanyenda and Musofu Wards.

 

According to the results displayed in the totalling centre, PFs Alex Ntambo polled 204 votes followed by Sydney Weyenga of UPND who polled 39 whilst MMD Fackson Mukobe had 6 and UNIP 3.

 

In Kanyenda Ward, PF candidate Chimoto Luckson polled a total of 558 votes followed by Mufwempa Talkmore, an independent candidate who polled 402 votes, while UPND‘s Mboyonga was in third place with 195 votes.

 

Opposition MMD candidate Chintala Fredrick polled 53 votes in fourth place while NAREP’s Kingsley Kiyumbi was in fifth place with 34 votes and UNIP’s John Mwape was in sixth place with  18 votes. A total of 37 votes where rejected out of the total 1, 077 cast votes.

 

In Musofu Ward PF candidate Justin Katimba has scooped the seat with 428 votes while UPND’s Alick Mulanshi is in second position with 258 votes and Lighton Chipeta of MMD is in third position with 17 votes.

 

The Returning officer is mid this morning expected to declare the winner of the Mpongwe parliamentary by election.
