Two Malawians and a Zambian in court for cannabis
Lundazi, February 27, ZANIS ——Two Malawian nationals and a Zambian Female yesterday appeared in Lundazi Magistrate court charged for the offence of trafficking in marijuana contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Appearing before Magistrate Miltone Nyirenda were Blessings Phiri aged 35 of Chibela village and Audrey Mwale aged 34 of Kaluluma village both of Chief Kaluluma in Kasungu district in Malawi while the third suspect was Brenda Hamanenga aged 40 of Hinsangu village of Chief Siyamusonde in Mazabuka district in Zambia.
Particulars of the offence were that the trio on unknown date but between 19th February and 25th February 2013, unlawfully did traffic in Psychotropic substance, namely marijuana a herbal product of cannabis sativa weighing 549kgs contrary to chapter 96 of the laws of Zambia.
ZAWA Public Prosecutor, George Nalumina told the court that officers from Drug Enforcement Commission whilst during their routine patrols received information that two foreign nationals and a Zambian female were hiding in Makule village in Chief Mphamba in readiness to transport marijuana to Lusaka.
However all the three accused persons pleaded not guilty as they all denied the charge.
Meanwhile Magistrate Miltone Nyirenda adjourned the matter to 6th March 2013 for continued trial and all the three accused persons have remain in police custody.
