ZANIS urged to increase its news coverage of Government developmental programmes
Lusaka, February 27, 2013 – ZANIS – Government has urged the Zambia News and Information Services, ZANIS, to increase its news coverage of Government developmental programmes across the country despite the challenge of understaffing that the department is facing.
Information Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya has noted that the Patriotic Front administration was eager to see that members of the public know what the Government is doing in improving their well being.
Speaking when he visited the ZANIS office in Luanshya, on the Copperbelt province, over the weekend, Mr. Kapeya said it was high time that the people saw what Government was doing for their benefit.
And Mr. Kapeya reiterated Governments’ commitment to ensure that it recruits more ZANIS staff across the country.
The Deputy Minister added that relevant authorities have given the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services to go ahead and employ more ZANIS officers.
Mr. Kapeya said Government is aware of the department’s shortage of manpower which urgently requires the filling of the vacancies.
He observed that recruiting more ZANIS staff would enable the institution to play an enhanced pivotal role towards the dissemination of effective and quality information to the people countrywide.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kapeya has called upon the staff department to embrace a culture of hard work in a bid to strengthen its productivity.
Mr. Kapeya said the PF administration is determined to see ZANIS contribute effectively to national development through the provision of quality information.
And ZANIS Luanshya district technician officer, Bianca Daka pointed out that the office was faced with some challenges in particular understaffing, among others.
Ms. Daka appealed to the Government to quickly come to the aid of the ZANIS offices in Luanshya.
