DC calls for road rehabilitation

Mwense, February 25, ZANIS ———- Mwense District Commissioner Victor Kasuba has implored government to work on the Kashiba-Mwenda road which he said was in a deplorable state and negatively affected inputs delivery for farmers in the district.

Mr Kasuba disclosed this in his office when Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Mbololwa Muyaba paid a courtesy call on him.

The District Commissioner also bemoaned the negative working culture and bad attitude towards work among civil servants in his district.

He complained that public service workers were reporting late for work and absenteeism was rampant in the district.

Mr Kasuba also bemoaned that the council has been working in isolation until recently when he managed to harmonize the working relations with the local authority so that they drive the development of the district together.

The District Commissioner also cited lack of transport as among other challenges most departments in his district were faced with as the entire district has only four vehicles thereby affected government operations negatively.

He said low funding for departments in his district was impacting negatively on his district performance compared to other districts.

He however said his district had the potential to contribute effectively to  national development because it was a home to Lukwesa Secondary School and Isubilo Palm Oil Project.

M Kasuba who also boasted of his district as being the only one with a roundabout in the province said his district has received KR5,000 for putting up street lights which will lit up the town in the night.

And Luapula Permanent Secretary Mbololwa Muyaba said civil servants were the engine of development because their services impacted greatly on the lives of citizens and there was need for them to change their attitude towards work.

Mrs Muyaba said every civil servant in the district should report for work on time and account for the time from 08.00 hours to 17.00 hours according to government regulations and of conditions of service.

She said civil servants should be good examples in their work so that the people in their working areas should see them as role models.
