Green Village solar project to light up 300 houses in Lundazi rural

Lusaka, March 21, ZANIS— At least 300 houses are to be connected to the solar mini grid power in chief Magodi’s area in Lundazi district under the Green Village solar project.

This came to light during the flagging off of the transportation of poles to Lundazi. The poles will be used in the electrification of villages in chief Magodi’s chiefdom.

Green Knowledge Institute (GKI) chairman Lloyd Chigambo disclosed that K5 million will be spent on connecting the villages to the mini solar grid.

Professor Chigambo explained that the aim of the Green Village solar project was to supply power to remote areas that cannot be reached by the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO).

He expressed optimism that the connection of 300 households in chief Magodi’s areas will help stimulate economic activities in Lundazi.

He said Zambia can be lit up using cheap sources of energy the country is endowed with.

And acting Director of the National Technology Business Centre David Mpundu said the Green Village Project will be duplicated to other remote parts of the country once the pilot phase is completed in Lundazi.

Mr. Mpungu explained that government institutions would benefit from the K5 million energy project.

He told ZANIS that funds have already been secured for the implementation of the Green Village solar project.
