NKANA assistant coach, Gift Kampamba got a shocking welcome to Swaziland on Thursday when he was charged and fined by Police for jaywalking.
The 2013 Zambian champions Nkana are in Swaziland to face Mbabane Swallows in a 2014 CAF Champions preliminary round, first leg match tomorrow at Somhlolo Stadium in Manzini.
Kampamba was fined K35 for crossing the road at undesignated point late on Thursday just outside the team hotel when he was going to a shopping mall across the road.
“The police insisted I pay and I was fined even after I explained I had just come into the country on duty with the team. I didn’t know it was illegal to cross the road at an undesignated point away from a zebra crossing,” Kampamba said.
And Nkana yesterday undertook their first training session following their arrival in Swaziland at 17:00 hours on Thursday.
Nkana coach Masautso Mwale took his players for a one hour workout at Mbabane Sports club on Friday morning before shifting to the artificial turf at Somhlolo later in the afternoon.
“Everything is OK the hotel is good and we are happy with the training pitch but in the afternoon (Friday) we will training from the main stadium,” Mwale said.
Delegation leader Kelvin Mutafu too said he was pleased with the facilities given to the team.
Meanwhile, Mwale said the fluctuating weather in Mbabane would not be a big factor in tomorrow’s Champions League meeting against Mbabane Swallows.
Rain and sunny but steamy conditions have been the order over the last three days in Swaziland ahead of Sunday’s preliminary round, first leg fixture.
Mwale said in an interview that the weather pattern wasn’t that different from back home in Zambia.
“I don’t know how it will be in the next 48 hours but those who came earlier on have told us about the fluctuating weather pattern but I think we have psyche our players whether it rains or not,” Mwale said.
“I want to think that this is the kind of weather we have left at home I don’t think it will stand in our way.”
Saturday’s forecast says it will be partly cloudy in the morning followed by a sunny afternoon and fog for the night before an overnight shower.
Tomorrow’s forecast will have a light drizzle and scattered showers for the afternoon with a temperature of 27 Degrees Celsius.
