—–Chief Lubunda of the Lunda people of Mwense district in Luapula Province has called for sinking of boreholes at chief’s palaces as opposed to school and clinic premises.
Chief Lubunda said it was very embarrassing for chiefs to be drawing water from a school or a clinic instead of their palace premises where even their subjects should be drawing water from.
He said there was nothing wrong for subjects to draw water from the chief’s palace premises because that was also a mark of authority.
The traditional leader said the common trend of chiefs going to a clinic or a school to draw water should be reconsidered because chiefs were the leaders of all their subjects who should be coming to the palace to fetch the commodity and not meeting their leader at a clinic or school premises for the commodity.
But Water Aid Provincial Project Manager, Moses Mumba, advised that the identification of suitable points to sink a borehole in a targeted area was done by various stakeholders who included the Resident Development Committees of the council and others.
Mr Mumba said it was still a good idea to involve chiefs in the identification of suitable water points which would be readily accessible to the majority of the targeted people in a particular chiefdom.
