MBABANE Swallows coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe is targeting at playing more high profiled friendly matches before facing Zambian champions Nkana in the 2014 CAF Champions League preliminary round match.
Hlophe whose side host Nkana in the first leg on February before travelling to Kitwe two weeks later, said he was targeting at playing two friendly games ahead of the crunch match against the MTN-FAZ League champions.
The red and white giants of Swaziland were in South Africa this past weekend as their preparations for their eagerly awaited Champions League intensified.
Swallows suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of Kazier Chiefs before drawing 1-all with SuperSport.
“What was evident from the two games we played was that we need at least two more friendly games against high profile teams from South Africa or Zimbabwe and take it from there before our Nkana game. The second match against SuperSport was better and the squad is coming up okay,” Nyanga said.
Meanwhile, Hlophe showered tribute to three players who were on trials at the club and took part in the friendly matches.
These include South African 21-year old right-back Thabiso Maharala, Zimbabwean striker Vibes Kudzanayi Matanda and Manzini Sea Birds’ Xolani ‘Tyson’ Magagula but he said a decision on whether to sign them or not will be made this week.
