Masked man stages robberies in Solwezi

Police in Solwezi have launched a manhunt for an unidentified mask-wearing man armed with a pistol who staged a spate of robberies between 02:00 and 04:30 hours yesterday robbing victims of cash and cell phones.

The unidentified man broke into the house of a 27 year old named woman of Kandundu extension and robbed her of K 2,100 cash and three cell phones valued at K 910 before raping her.

The man then struck at Muza Guest House and attacked two guests at around 03:00 hours where he robbed the first guest of K 3,000 cash and two cell phones valued at K 950 while another was robbed of two cell phones worth K 3,050.

North-Western Province deputy Police Chief, Michael Nkaka, confirmed the robberies to ZANIS in Solwezi today.

Mr Nkaka said the masked man also attempted to break into a farm house on the Solwezi Kipushi road but failed.

He said force and violence was used in all the cases, adding that police have since launched a manhunt for the robber.

Mr Nkaka has appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious looking people to the nearest police or by calling the police toll free line 911 which he said has been strengthened and put
on a 24-hour alert.
