1 dies, 2 injured in Chingola-Solwezi road accident

A MAN died on the spot while two others sustained injuries when a Mitsubishi Canter light truck collided with an on-coming truck on the Chingola-Solwezi road.

Killian Tengo of Zambia Township who was a passenger on the light truck, died on the spot while the driver, Danny Mwelwa, and an unidentified person sustained injuries and are admitted to Nchanga North Hospital in Chingola.
North-Western Province deputy commissioner of police Michael Nkaka confirmed the accident which happened on Friday around 15:50 hours in Kamilulu area near Kangwena Primary School.
Mr Nkaka said the accident happened after Mwelwa, 25, of Magrader Township in Solwezi driving the Mitsubishi Canter allegedly attempted to overtake two motor vehicles.
The vehicle collided with an on-coming Iveco truck driven by Noah Chikwembe, 59, of New Ndeke in Kitwe.
Mr Nkaka said the deceased sustained serious head injuries, broken legs and right hand while the driver and another unidentified passenger sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital in Chingola.
Tengo’s body is in the Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.
A docket has been opened for Mwelwa but that he has not yet been formally charged as he is still in hospital.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the accident.
