The delegation comprises Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Poniso Njeulu, and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Information and Broadcasting.
These include committee chair-person Kabinga Pande, Pemba MP Mutinta Mazoka, Lukulu West MP Christopher Kalila, Chama South MP Efron Lungu, Luanshya MP Stephen Chungu, Masaiti MP Michael Katambo, Kafulafuta MP Brian Chitafu and Chipili MP Davies Mwila.
Others in the delegation are Independent Broadcasting Authority director general, Josephine Mapoma, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation director general Chibamba Kanyama and his finance director, Victor Nyasulu.
The team was received on arrival at Arlanda International Airport by Zambia’s Ambassador to Sweden Edith Mutale and other embassy officials.
This is according to a statement released by First Secretary – Press at the Zambian Mission in Stockholm, George Mubanga. Also on hand to receive the delegation was Per Helgesson, Head of Swedish Radio Media Development Office which has been instrumental in organising the study tour.
While in Sweden the team will among other things undertake a study of the concept of public service broadcasting as it is practiced in the Swedish context.
This would include regulation and legal status, as well as issues of journalistic integrity, building trust and the financing system through licence fees.
The programme would also include visits to among others Swedish Radio and Swedish television, the Swedish Parliament, the Swedish Broadcasting Authority, and the Swedish Broadcasting Commission.
A visit to a regional radio station to study regionalisation issues is also prominent on the Zambian delegation’s programme in Sweden.
Zambians study Sweden’s broadcasting set up
A ZAMBIAN delegation has arrived in Stockholm, Sweden, for a study tour of the country’s public broadcasting sector at the invitation of the Swedish Public Institute.
