A 66-YEAR-OLD man of Serenje has allegedly been axed to death by his son and nephew who suspected him of being a wizard.
Headman Mpanga of Mpanga John Chibuye village was killed by his son Aswell Chibuye and his nephew Peter Chibuye on Sunday around 19:00 hours.
Central Province deputy police commissioner Edwin Bwanga, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said Aswell and Peter pounced on headman Mpanga as he sat in a chair at his house.
Mr Bwanga said the duo hit him with an axe in the head.
“They murdered him brutally with an axe on suspicion of witchcraft,” Mr Bwanga said.
Mr Bwanga said after killing headman Mpanga, the duo fled.
The headman has been buried but in the course of investigations, police will exhume the body for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, a man of Kabwe has been robbed of K500 by two men who attacked him around 21:00 hours on Monday.
Mr Bwanga said the victim was battered by his attackers, who fled the scene after the robbery.
He said police are hunting the two men.
