tezhi District Council secretary Cheembo Mang’watu has urged farmers in Itezhi tezhi district to take jatropha farming seriously if they are to alleviate poverty.
Speaking during a meeting at the council chamber, Mr. Mang’watu said that jatropha farming is a very profitable business that every interested farmer should take seriously.
“I wish to encourage Itezhi tezhi farmers to take jatropha farming very seriously. It is also said that linkages have already been made to organizations that will be buying jatropha seeds from farmers in the district” Mr. Mang’watu said.
And Itezhi tezhi District Council chairperson Fanwell Sitongwa has implored the disaster management and mitigation unit under the vice president’s office to repair the damages on the D769 road that have been caused by excessive rains.
Mr. Sitongwa said that Itezhi tezhi district has been experiencing excessive rains that have impacted negatively on roads.
He said there are many spots along the D769 road that have been damaged and needed urgent repair.
Meanwhile Mr. Sitongwa has commended government for the provision of K12 billion (KR12Million) for the rehabilitation of 12.7 kilometer stretch of the Itezhi tezhi Namwala road.
He said that the development will make transportation between Itezhi tezhi and Namwala easier and smooth.
