Government releases money for cattle disease control
Chinsali, July 8, 2013.ZANIS — GOVERNMENT has released over K 300,000
for the construction and rehabilitation of dip tanks and services
centers in Muchinga Province.
Muchinga Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) Jewis Chabi said the PF
Government is serious on the control of animal diseases.
Mr. Chabi said service centers and dip tanks are cardinal in
controlling of animal diseases.
ZANIS reports that the Deputy minister said the DPS was speaking in Chinsali
over the weekend during the official opening of the second Provincial Agriculture , Tourism and Investment
Show under the theme ”Business in the changing environment.”
‘ The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL)
in the Province, has since embarked on a vigorous sensitisation
programme on the importance of dipping animals to control tick-bone
diseases and maintenance of dip tanks,” he said.
Mr. Chabi said that the Government has embarked on a programme of
constructing and rehabilitating dip tanks so as to take the services
of dipping animals as closer to the farmers as possible.
He said that the construction and rehabilitation of dip tanks and
service centers will carter for all the seven (7) Districts in the
Province.
He said the Government remains committed to improving the living
standards of its citizens especially among the farmers in rural areas
where poverty levels are high.
Mr. Chabi also disclosed that the Government has allocated an extra
K400, 000 to the province for a goat breeding center to be established
in Mpika District.
Mr. Chabi said so far a sum of K140, 000 has been released for
construction works in Chief Luchembe‘s area.
He further said the breeding Center will improve the quality and
increase the number of goats among local small-scale livestock
farmers.
Mr. Chabi said Government’s intention was to ensure that farmers have
access to quality breeding stock at appropriate and affordable price
including training on livestock management.
And Provincial Show Society Chairperson, Chileshe Kapwepwe, has
appealed to the local authority in the area to allocate land to the
show society where to build permanent structures for the Agriculture
Show grounds.
Ms. Kapwepwe said year’s theme had come at the right time as most
farmers have now engaged into agro business unlike in the past when
farmers used to farm only for consumption purposes.
She urged exhibitors to take farming as a business that will improve
their livelihood.
