Copperbelt Provincial Minister Mwenya Musenge has expressed disappointment over the poor turnout by government officers in commemorating the African Public Service Day.

ZANIS Ndola reports that Mr Musenge said this when he officiated at the Copperbelt African Public Service Day commemorations, which were held this morning, at the Ndola Civic Center grounds.

The Provincial Minister directed Copperbelt Provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary Georgina Ndeketeya Kasapato to find out the cause of the apathy.

“Let me mention that I am extremely disappointed with this poor turnout by the civil servants, as a province we moved the celebration to this day so that all civil servants could come and attend, however this is very bad, DPS you should call a meeting find out this apathy and make sure this does not happen again,” he said.

The Minister further said he was disappointed that very few departments participated in the African Public Service Day exhibition which was held on Friday at the civic centre grounds.

“I was again disappointed on Friday during the exhibition only a handful of departments participated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Musenge noted that this year’s theme “African Public Service Day in age of open government giving a voice to citizens” was a wakeup call to leaders to create an environment which allows citizens to participate in governance.

The Copperbelt Provincial Administration moved the celebration for the African Public Service Day to June 24, 2013 in order to allow all civil servants in the province to participate.
