Public Service Day poorly organized in Southern province
Choma, June 24, ZANIS – A senior government official has expressed unhappiness at the poor organization of this year’s commemoration of the Provincial Africa Public Service Day in Choma.
District Commissioner Golden Nyambe who represented the Provincial Permanent Secretary Mr Bernard Namachila at this year’s commemoration said there was lack of publicity about the event resulting in low turnout of government departments and ministries.
Mr Nyambe said the organizing committee should have adequately informed government institutions and members of the public about the event which was supposed to have been commemorated yesterday but was moved to today.
He said it is important for members of the public to have also attended so that they could be able to appreciate services rendered by the various government ministries and departments.
Mr Nyambe said he expects the organizing committee to redouble efforts in organizing for the event next year.
But Organizing Committee Chairperson Serjio Mulando said most government departments shunned the event citing lack of budgetary allocation.
Mr Mulando has implored the various government departments and ministries to ensure that they plan and allocate resources for the event in next year’s budget.
The Pan African Conference of Ministers in 2001 declared 23 June as Africa Public Service Day.
The day aims to celebrate the value and virtue of service to the community.
