UNZA urges its affiliate institutions to exhibit high standards

– University of Zambia (UNZA) Vice Chancellor Stephen Simukanga has said training of teachers for secondary education in the country was a collective effort of all concerned stakeholders in the education sector.

Professor Simukanga said it was the vision of the University of Zambia to ensure that the development of quality teaching staff was achieved throughout the country.

He said this today in a speech ready on his behalf by acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Mwase Tembo during the third graduation ceremony of 82 secondary school teachers at Makeni College of Education in Lusaka.

Prof. Simukanga reminded Makeni College management that institutions that are affiliated to UNZA were expected to operate according to University of Zambia regulations and requirements for better standards.

And speaking at the same occasion, Islamic Society of Zambia Chairman Seedat Mohamed expressed profound gratitude on the mutual understanding between the University of Zambia and Makeni College of Education.

Mr. Mohammed said the two institutions have greatly managed to help develop and maintain high quality education standards in the country.

He also thanked government for creating an enabling environment for private colleges to operation smoothly in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education Chishimba Nkosha said his ministry considers the training of secondary school teachers as one of its major priorities.

Mr. Nkosha said teacher training is was vital in the development of Zambia and urged Makeni College to continue exhibiting this good gesture.

He said this in a speech ready on his behalf by acting Director of Education at the Ministry James Chilufya.
