Kafue Member of Parliament (MP) Obvious Mwaliteta has expressed happiness that financial resources which government was investing in developmental projects were being put to good use.
Mr. Mwaliteta, who is also Western Province Minister, said he was impressed as a government leader and also as an MP with the rate at which Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) was implementing its projects of improve water supply in his constituency and in Lusaka province as a whole.
He said this in Kafue District today during a tour of Kaseba Water Treatment Plant which is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
The plant supplies water to Kafue residents only.
Mr. Mwaliteta noted that the ongoing works at the water plant were a demonstration of government’s commitment to provide clean and safe water for the people.
He has since urged the water utility company to liaise with Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) on how best the two companies can work together in improving water supply services in his constituency.
He said NCZ also has the capacity to supply water.
Mr. Mwaliteta was hopeful that once the rehabilitation works were completed, residents of Kafue District will start enjoying consistent water supply.
Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Managing Director George Ndongwe disclosed that it was possible to better the lives of people when there was support from government.
Mr. Ndongwe therefore thanked government for the role it played in ensuring that the water utility company gets funding from the World Bank.
He expressed optimism that the rehabilitation works that are taking place will help improve on the quality of water supply once the projects are completed.
And Area Manager David Ngenda called on Kafue residents to be patience with the LWSC and endure the erratic water supply that they are currently experiencing.
Mr. Ngenda said the erratic water supply was caused by the shutting down of pumps in order to install new equipment at the plant.
He has since assured the residents that the situation will normalise as soon as the works were concluded.
