—–A senior government official in Western Province has said that health workers have the mandate to deliver health services to the satisfaction of the general public.
Western Province Permanent Secretary (PS), Emmanuel Mwamba, says due to the change of government in 2011, people would also want to see change in the health sector through good health service delivery.
The PS said this when he addressed Ministry of Health workers at Kalabo district hospital.
Mr. Mwamba said people would be surprised if health officers did not change their attitudes towards work when government itself changed in 2011.
He said people would like to see that queuing at hospitals or rudeness by some health workers also ended due to change of government.
Mr Mwamba, who was on a familiarisation tour of Kalabo and Sikongo districts, said he was visiting the areas with his entourage to strengthen the workers so that they could change their attitudes towards work and also to understand their problems.
Mr Mwamba said he wanted the health workers in Kalabo to work extra hard because it was their environment and health institution, adding that he was impressed with the status of cleanliness at the Kalabo District Hospital.
Earlier, Kalabo District Medical officer, Arthur Mutuna, told the PS that Kalabo was having 40 per cent of trained human resource and 95 per cent comprised of cleaners.
Dr Mutuna also complained that the health institution was dilapidated and required rehabilitation, adding that efforts were already in place to work on the institution as inspectors were already at the hospital to see what was required to be done.
Mr Mwamba was accompanied by Provincial Medical Officer, Albert Sitali, Acting Provincial Agricultural Coordinator, Mwiya Mukungu, Provincial Roads Engineer, Fred Phiri, and Provincial Education Officer, Muyangwa Kamutumwa.
Others were Provincial Buildings Engineer, Yoram Banda, Provincial Empowerment Coordinator, Walusungu Banda and Provincial Administrative Officer, Paul Kabwebwe.
