Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela says he has engaged lawyers on corruption allegations leveled against him suggesting that he illegally benefited a car from the Road Development Agency – RDA.
The Minister says he has instructed his lawyers because the accusations are unfair and defamatory in nature.
Mr Chitotela says he will not comment further on the allegations that have gone viral on social media because he wants the law to take its course.
The minister was speaking when he featured on a live phone in Radio Programe on Millennium Radio in Lusaka.
And Mr Chitotela said all contracts are being financed by contractors themselves.
He has challenged people alleging corruption to substantiate their claims.
And Mr Chitotela said President Edgar Lungu has instructed him to engage the private sector that will be able to invest in the Housing sector.
Mr Chitotela said he will be visiting the United States of America where he will be going to attract investors in the financial sector to come and set up a Construction bank in Zambia.
He said this is because government wants to see a bank that will specifically service the construction sector.
And Mr Chitotela said his Ministry has signed a memorandums of understanding with a Chinese company to build houses in a project called rent to own.
Mr Chitotela added that the project will see government build 20,000 housing units.
