UPND secretary general Steven Katuka says party vice-president for politics Dr Canisius Banda has asked for an unofficial leave from campaigns because he wants to reflect.
In an interview, Katuka revealed that Dr Banda had informed him that the appointment of vice-president for administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba as UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s running mate had taken him by surprise.
“After the president announced that he had picked GBM as his running mate, he asked the party for sometime to reflect because the appointment of Mwamba had taken him by surprise ,” Katuka said
“What we had known all along was that as vice president, he would be part of the campaign team. He should have gone to the Copperbelt for campaigns.”
Katuka hoped Dr Banda would call off his leave and join the campaign team.
“I hope he would be on the eastern leg of campaigns in the Eastern Province which starts on Sunday. We are yet to see if he will be on the campaigns. But there is nothing official from him,” said Katuka
“Dr Banda should stop going to this and that media to announce that he does not want to be part of campaigns . He should let us know that he does not wish to be part of campaigns,” Katuka said.
