Police warn, caution ABZ vice-president, Patricia Mwashingwele

POLICE yesterday recorded a warned-and-caution statement from Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) vice-president Patricia Mwashingwele for allegedly issuing two cheques worth K13,000 on an insufficiently funded account.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed yesterday that Ms Mwashingwele reported to Lusaka Central Police Station around 10:00 hours in the company of her lawyer.
Mr Hamoonga said police officers warned and cautioned Ms Mwashingwele in connection with two cheques worth K13,000 that she allegedly issued on an insufficiently funded account last year.
“Ms Mwashingwele allegedly issued two cheques that bounced on a Standard Chartered Bank Northmead branch account after the client took the cheques there,” Mr Hamoonga said.
He said that initially, Ms Mwashingwele only sent her lawyer when police summoned her but that she personally presented herself yesterday.
ABZ president Frank Bwalya also confirmed the summoning of Ms Mwashingwele to journalists but declined to give details.
On February 19, this year, Ms Mwashingwele was summoned by police for allegedly issuing a cheque on an insufficiently funded account contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Ms Mwashingwele, who is losing Katuba parliamentary candidate, was allegedly refunding a client to whom she sold a piece of land but the cheques bounced.
She is alleged to have sold a piece of land to two people who differed over ownership.
