RTSA buys on-spot fitness test equipment

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has introduced mobile vehicle testing equipment procured at a cost of KR9 million to detect the fitness of vehicles on the road.

Education and publicity manager Mukela Mangolwa confirmed the development in an interview at the ongoing Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola.

Mr Mangolwa said the agency bought the equipment to help curb road traffic accidents caused by unfit vehicles on the roads.

He said RTSA would start using the four mobile equipment at the end of next month and that it would be stationed in Lusaka, Ndola, Chingola and Kitwe, which have the highest number of motor vehicles.

Mr Mangolwa said the company was in the process of procuring more machines to cater for all the areas in the country.

“This new equipment will help us get correct results on vehicle testing. It is an innovation, we will no longer rely on human judgement in checking for fitness,” he said.

He said 18 members of staff were trained in Germany on how to use the equipment, adding that more employees would be trained in order to increase efficiency.
