Govt promises to pay Mansa transporters on July 17
Mansa, Jun 28/13, ZANIS———–Government has assured transporters that were not paid their money for transporting maize in the 2011/2012 marketing season in Luapula province that they will be paid by July 17, 2013.
Mansa District Commissioner, Miriam Kauseni, made the assurance today, saying the government is working around the clock to ensure that the transporters are paid.
Mrs Kauseni said government realizes the importance of the transporters in the marketing of maize and other crops and will ensure that the transporters are paid before this year’s marketing season commences.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this when she met the transporters in her office today.
Meanwhile, the transporters have welcomed the assurances from the government, saying they will wait to see what will happen on the date that they have been given.
About 31 transporters that were contracted by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in the 2011/2012 season have not been paid their money for transporting maize and other crops.
On Monday, transporters drove to the Food Reserve Agency offices in Mansa demanding an explanation as to when they would be paid their money and were later addressed by the District Commissioner.
